Retirement Chihuahua Cake

This cake was for a retirement party at work. The retiree absolutely loves her chihuahua, Chiquita Maria Lolita Vasquez-Vitro, so the party planners ordered a 3D version of the pup. Unfortunately, little dogs don't feed too many people, so I had to chub him up a little.

Looks a tad like my own pup, eh? Add some floppy ears and an eye roll and it's her.

I wish I could have come up with a fur to use. It was a extremely short haired pup, so fur was not a solid option.

Joanne's Owl Cake

One of my favorite people in the world celebrated a birthday this week, and of course I brought a cake. Would you expect anything less?

This is a vanilla cake with buttercream frosting. There was no rhyme or reason for the owls, I just thought they were cute. I love the heart bellies and the winking pink owl. This may be one of my favorite cakes. The perfectionist in me sees a lot of flaws that I wish I could have fixed/smoothed out, but the rest of me just sees cute fondant owls.

Marc's Birthday: Superbowl Sunday

Marc's birthday fell on Superbowl Sunday this year. To commemorate his 29th year, plus the Superbowl, I played off of the 2010 Superbowl logo. The roman numerals behind Marc's name say 29, and that weird fork in the middle is suppose to be a field goal thing. Oh well, I tried.

Katie's Birthday: The White Cat

For Katie's birthday, her boyfriend requested a "red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting in the shape of a white cat." Done and done. The problem? When we cut in to it, it looked like a massacre. Very "bleedin' armadillo groom's cake" a la Steel Magnolias.

The crowd enjoyed it, but it bothers me that the cat looks more like a sheep.

I started off without the fur element but the cat looked homeless and like one of those naked cats without any fur. So I added the fur, but then it looked too much like a sheep. Solution? Collar with ID. Unfortunately, the face, feet, and writing was already done on the naked version, so those parts were just shaved looking.

The ears, tail, nose, and collar were made of fondant, the cake was red velvet, and everything else is cream cheese frosting. Lots of cream cheese frosting.
